What Are the New Requirements?

In July 2025, the federal government passed H.R.1, “The One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which requires certain Medicaid members to meet Community Engagement requirements to keep their coverage.
To meet these requirements, some Medicaid members must complete at least 80 hours of work or approved community activities per month.

When Do Community Engagement Requirements Start?

The start date is January 1, 2027. However, Medicaid applicants who are affected may have to start meeting the requirements in the month prior to their application. For example, applicants for January 2027 may have to meet requirements in December 2026. The new requirements will not apply to current Medicaid members until their regularly scheduled renewal in 2027.
